Professor Haileleol Tibebu, founder of African Voice AI, has received an official invitation to participate at the United Nations High-Level Meeting: "Open AI for Good," part of the upcoming UN Open Source Week 2025. This prominent event will be held from June 16–20, 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
UN Open Source Week, established in 2023, has quickly become a pivotal international forum, bringing together global technologists, policymakers, innovators, and thought leaders to foster dialogue and collaboration around open-source technologies, digital public infrastructure (DPI), and digital cooperation. This year's program has expanded significantly, providing greater opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and networking, reflecting increased global demand for engagement in these crucial areas.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Haileleol Tibebu highlighted his intent to leverage this influential global platform to discuss how open-source AI can significantly benefit African tech ecosystems, startups, and entrepreneurs. He emphasized that open-source technologies provide essential tools for fostering innovation, enhancing accessibility, and facilitating sustainable growth across Africa. Additionally, Prof. Tibebu will use this platform to discuss other key advantages of open-source solutions, underscoring their potential to solve urgent global challenges.
The week-long program includes the UN Tech Over Hackathon (June 16–17), bringing together technologists and stakeholders to develop innovative, open-source solutions for critical global challenges identified by the United Nations. Additionally, OSPOs for Good returns on June 18, followed by Digital Public Infrastructure Day on June 19, and various Side Events on June 20, creating a comprehensive environment for ideation, co-creation, and meaningful networking.
