Dr. Haileleol Tibebu is the founder of African Voice AI and the research lead of the Responsible Machine Intelligence Lab, where he directs a team building standards and methods for fair, transparent, and accountable AI systems. He is also an Assistant Professor of AI, Tech Policy, and Governance at the University of Illinois.
His work sits at the intersection of AI ethics, policy development, and governance standards. He has published recommendations on privacy and governance frameworks with NIST, assessed international AI frameworks, and developed metrics for algorithmic fairness. He served as a session chair at REAIM 2023 and was invited to the UN's high-level Open-Source Internet for Good initiative.
Across both the lab and African Voice AI, his focus is the same: AI standards that protect human rights and support equitable, responsible development for communities worldwide.
